Programs & curriculum
Is Smash a full curriculum or a supplementary resource?
Smash provides full language curricula, organized by grade or proficiency level, units and structured learning missions. Lessons connect vocabulary, grammar and practical communication, with audiovisual content, printables, games and interactive activities. Teachers can use the curriculum as their main teaching path or select resources to complement their existing plan.
French, English and Spanish programs serve K–12, college and university learners. Core French and French Immersion are grouped together, with a separate French as a Foreign Language (FLE) offering. Ask which content and proficiency levels suit your group.
Smash provides full curricula, including CEFR-based French, English and Spanish programs, alongside Core French and French Immersion. Structured learning objectives, units and missions give teachers a clear teaching path. Explore the relevant program and sample lessons against your provincial, state or district priorities.
CEFR and ACTFL both focus on what learners can do with a language. Smash’s CEFR-based curriculum develops listening, speaking, reading and writing through carefully sequenced practice and real-life communication. The frameworks use different proficiency scales.
Each Smash language program has extensive content and a carefully built teaching sequence. Our approach depends on introducing and practicing skills in a specific order, so developing a new language takes substantial work. We take pride in that depth and progression. We would love to offer more languages over time.
Is the placement test an official language certification?
The diagnostic and placement test helps teachers identify a starting point and choose suitable practice. It supports instructional decisions. Official DELF and DELE qualifications are awarded through their separate examination processes.
Teachers can use diagnostic and placement results to identify learner starting points and differentiate instruction. Follow the main curriculum for whole-class teaching, then choose supplementary materials to reinforce skills, address gaps or extend learning. Scaffolded activities and detailed reports help guide those choices.
Learners practice listening, speaking, reading and writing. Scaffolded speaking activities and voice recognition support oral practice, while automatically graded activities and learner reports provide information for teachers. Placement and diagnostic results are general indicators, not official proficiency certifications.
Smash offers DELF and DELF Prim practice for French, and DELE practice for Spanish. Practice is distinct from taking an official examination and receiving a qualification from the relevant examination body.
Ask to see relevant lessons, activities and progress reports. Discuss how the content fits your teaching plan, mixed-ability groups and use in class or at home.
Bring your learner numbers, program goals, timetable and teacher-support needs. Also discuss devices, accessibility, account setup and any required integrations before selecting a package.
Smash provides platform-use training, setup guidance, demonstrations and practical tips. Teachers and institutions retain responsibility for instruction. Discuss the support arrangements included in your package during implementation planning.
Smash can be used with a projector or interactive whiteboard, shared devices, individual devices, a computer lab or home access. Teachers can combine whole-class teaching with independent practice according to their classroom setup.
